About Laura

Last April, at age 25, Laura addressed the importance of youth participation and gender equality to world leaders at the United Nations with a self-written speech. In addition, she was employed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Youth Ambassador for Sexual Rights and Gender Equality. In that role, she consulted hundreds of young people, who shared insights and recommendations with her. As a member of the Dutch Delegation, Laura took these learnings to the United Nations, where she negotiated on behalf of the Netherlands.

The United Nations is not the only international stage Laura entered. She has spoken at Unicef, Amref Flying Doctors, SheDecides and Girls not Brides. Besides, she was a jury member for the Human Rights Tulip. She also led her own project "More Gender Equality on the Labor Market" in 2021, for which she gave workshops on closing the wage gap in collaboration with MEPs Vera Tax and Agnes Jongerius. Her social commitment was recognized with two awards: the Nouri Talent Award and the Changemaker of Amsterdam Award. Laura managed to win prizes in other places as well. In 2021 she came in third at Miss World Netherlands.

During her term as Youth Ambassador, Laura obtained her Masters in Culture, Organization & Management at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. While studying, she further expanded her knowledge about young people and equal opportunities in the labor market, by conducting research on Millennials & Work together with generation expert Dr. Aart Bontekoning. Moreover, she has been advising several organizations on youth participation.

In addition to her current work as changemaker, public speaker and moderator, Laura is one of the four faces of ‘What’s Next’, which is the shared youth channel of TV and online media AT5 and NH News
